Dusk in Nine Mile Canyon

Late Northern San Rafael Fremont 800 A.D. to 1250 A.D. Nine Mile Canyon, Carbon County

An unusual figure with no arms faces a valley with skimpy patches of vegetation.   Local ranchers say their fathers remember knee deep grasses and year-around streams.  Now the creeks are lost in eroding arroyos.

Nearby the Barrett Corporation scraped an acre of land to set up a drill pad for a natural gas well.  The company made no efforts to revegetate the land.  Further, when Barett Corporation dug a trench for a new pipeline in the area, the on-site archaeologist noted artifacts.  When the archeologist requested that the digging stop, he was fired.   News of the incident leaked and the archeologist was reinstated.
